What's the difference between optical repeater and digital repeater?

Optical fiber repeater transmits data by optical signal. This side is coded into optical signal, which is transmitted through optical fiber. The other side is decoded and restored to digital signal. Digital repeater directly transmits digital signals. Optical fibers, cables and wires can be used. No coding and decoding is required for both sides.
